What is plantar fasciitis?

A common type of heel pain is plantar fasciitis, the inflammation of the tissue at the bottom of your foot. The plantar fascia is a tough band of tissue that connects your heel to toes, helps support your arch, and acts as a natural shock absorber. You may also be more likely to develop heel pain if a job or hobby requires long hours on your feet. Certain shoes, like dress shoes, or wearing the wrong kind of shoes for an activity may increase your symptoms.

These may include changing your footwear to more comfortable shoes that fit well, especially if you are active or on your feet a lot. Additionally, you may benefit from custom orthotics, insoles, or other devices to support your feet. We may also recommend some stretching exercises.
